Valerie Stivers, the author behind The Paris Review's popular “Eat Your Words” column, recently cooked from and wrote about a deep cut from the NYRB Classics series: Summer Cooking by Elizabeth David. As Stivers writes, Summer Cooking is considered David's “most casual, personal, and playful work,” and Stivers attempted to capture this spirit by creating a menu from the book's more picnic-appropriate recipes. She was joined in this endeavor by Kassia Oset and Dylan Cuellar, hosts of the NYRB Classics–devoted podcast, Unburied Books. Unburied Books just released an episode featuring Stivers and Summer Cooking, too.
